September 1st the third annual Bike Tour de Burkina Faso will begin. As you know, the Bike Tour is a Gender and Development Committee fundraiser that takes place in order for the GAD committee to fund volunteer projects throughout the year.
Due to last year's fundraising efforts, we have been able to fund several successful grants in 2013. Emily Bruton was able to aid her women's group in creating traditional scarves, napkins and pillow cases that are selling wildly around her village and even being bought by stores in Ouagadougou! The first Womens Health and Leadership Conference took place this March and was a fun and educational conference that ended in women changing their lives-including a brand new Tofu group with Katie Gehron and a woman heading back to school to become a midwife. With the Bike Tour money of 2012, we were also able to fund a Doorways camp at a local village, where male and female teachers are educated on the importance of removing vioelnce from schools.
We’re looking forward to an action-packed month of September filled with amity, challenges, sweat, and laughter.
As you know a few changes have been made this year. The tour will be split up into two seven day rides in the Central region and the SouthWest. You are welcome to do both! While we finalize route information with the Bureau, we wanted to be sure to get out some fundraising information for you!
The main objective of the bike tour is to raise money to support future GAD projects. We encourage all permanent riders to raise a minimum of $150 US dollars and $100 US dollars for any other kind of rider. Below is the link to our country fund.
To be certain your donation reaches Gender and Development projects, be sure to specify “GAD Gender and Development” in the Comments section
We repeat! Please be sure that when a friend of family member donates, they specify “GAD Gender and Development Committee” in the comments section of their donation.
Love always, The GAD Bike Tour Committee
