Southwest Bike Tour: Challenge Accepted

Bike Tour 2014 kicked off last week with a very successful trip around the southwest region of Burkina Faso. Though the southwest is by far the most scenic route, it is also the most challenging to bike due to the hilly terrain and high rainfall (meaning lots of washed out roads). Five volunteers peddled nearly one hundred kilometers to four different villages over the course of the week.

The volunteers participated in health-focused projects along the way - reaching over three hundred Burkinabe in rural and urban populations to talk about malaria, nutrition, and family planning. They even took part in hands-on activities like tofu transformation and handed out health informational leaflets at a busy marketplace.

Funds raised by Bike Tour are used for gender grants in country. 100% of your donation is invested back into communities in Burkina Faso, absolutely zero overhead for administrative costs. We have funded gender empowerment camps, family planning conferences, girls' soccer teams, and many other great projects to help women. Please consider donating to our cause, the donation link can be found on the side of this blog.

Thank you to all of our family and friends for your support. Bike on!

The brave bikers!

Dealing with some bovine traffic and washed-out roads. Always an adventure.
