This was our first day joining the bike tour so it was a little tough for us. After Kaya, the riders met us in Fourgi, Hayley’s site, for breakfast (hard boiled eggs and bread with peanut butter and Vache Qui Rit). Then we set off to Boulsa.
The road was full of potholes and very hilly. There were also a lot of cement rain barriers in the road which were tough to ride over. The ride was pretty – we passed lots of fields of grass and crops. After arriving in Bousla we were all pleasantly surprised with a giant bowl of cookies from our Country Director Shannon. We sat down and devoured cookies while our bodies cooled down.
Then we headed to our destination and showered off and ate lunch. Unfortunately Boulsa is in between volunteers so there is no one currently living at the house there. We spent a few hours cleaning the house and making sure it was habitable for the new volunteer who will be coming to Boulsa at the end of September. Later in the afternoon, we headed to the CREN (Centre de recouperation et education nutritionel) to talk to a women’s group about moringa trees – how to plant moringa and use it in cooking. Shout out to Bridget for her awesome Moore skills!
Hayley and I also had a lot of fun playing with the babies there! The women were really great and supportive of us. Afterwards we ate dinner and collapsed in our bug huts around 7:30PM. It was a really great start to the bike tour!
Love it! I used to live in Boulsa and ride by that tractor tree all the time!
